Union Ergonomics just sold two new Union Ergonomics franchises to Mrs. Scrocco and Mr. & Mrs. Chadha.

We chose Mrs. Scrocco’s clinic in Toronto downtown area near College and Ossington area. This is a Portuguese area and with Mrs. Scrocco’s husband being a well known Portuguese businessman; she will surely be successful in this area.

Mr. & Mrs. Chadha have been referred to us by our franchisee of the year 2009, Mr. Tito Goswami (owner of Newmarket Union Ergonomics Clinic). I thank you for this referral Mr. Goswami. I have chosen South Etobicoke (Bloor/Kipling) as the perfect location for this couple. They already own a successful sports bar near this area and I felt this to be a great area as our Etobicoke North franchisee, Mr. Ali Nezhadi of Kipling Union Ergonomics Clinic has been very successful and busy since opening his clinic a few weeks ago.

Union Ergonomics is glad to announce that students enrolled at National Academy of Osteopathy are approved to undergo internship in selected Union ergonomics franchise clinics.

National Academy of Osteopathy (NAO) is a private educational institution offering manual osteopathy program leading to a Diploma in Manual Osteopathy (DMO) in a four months condensed full time program or two part time ones (9 months and 3 years). It is the only institute in Canada offering manual osteopathy in a 4 months full time program.

Osteopathy is a branch of hands-on manual medicine; very similar to chiropractic; that assess and treats neuromusculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain, neck pain, headaches, and knee pain.

National Academy of Osteopathy is accredited by Council on Manual Osteopathy Education and as such its graduates are able to sit for exams administered by Canadian Manual Osteopathy Examining Board.

Assistive Devices Program (ADP) of Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (OMHLTC) covers for many mobility devices such as electric wheelchairs, stairlifts, orthopaedic devices, prosthetic, and many other items for all residents of Ontario who may need these equipments. Union Ergonomics just sold a franchise clinic in Vancouver. This is very special to us as this is the first time we sold a franchise clinic outside Ontario, in Canada.
Even though we have a franchisee in Cleveland, USA, this is the first time we are in another Canadian province.

We are working hard to set up all the clinics within the next two to three months. We have set up 14 clinics that are already operational and working. It is with utmost happiness I am announcing this news. Union Ergonomics has committed to fully sponsor and pay for building a non-profit outpatient orthopaedic hospital in the impoverished village of Foshtom, near city of Rasht, Iran.

I spent many summers in this village and was witnessed first hand the need for an orthopaedic hospital in this village.

Majority of people living in this area are rice farmers. Rice farming is a physically intensive profession that takes a heavy toll on farmers. The rate of osteoarthritis and degenerative disk disease are staggering in this village.

Unfortunately since farmers are not insured they have to pay out of pocket for medical services. As such they only see a doctor for emergency services as they are generally poor and unable to afford common medical services we take for granted.

It was always my goal to change that. I want to make sure they have access to common medical services without worrying about payment. Orthopaedic services in this hospital will be free of charge for these farmers and their families.

This is a work in progress. We will start by having three departments; orthopaedics surgery, physical therapy rehabilitation and clinical ergonomics.

I want to make sure these farmers are thought on proper ergonomic techniques. I want them to know proper ways of working as to decrease chance of injuring their back.

This will be an outpatient hospital meaning patients will not stay overnight. As such this hospital will gear mostly toward treating musculoskeletal and joint disorders.

This village gave me some of the most memorable memories of my life. I am proud to be able to give back to Foshtom.

It is our pleasure to inform you, Ms. Jenna Repath who has been with us since June 2009 as a certified kinesiologist in Union Ergonomics clinical research department has been promoted to Chief Training Officer (CTO) position. In her short time with us, Ms. Repath has proven to be a valuable employee with outstanding accomplishment in her field. As such we are extremely happy to have her in our team and congratulate her in her promotion to this prestigious post.

Ms. Repath will be in charge of training new franchisees as well as providing ongoing coaching and support to current franchisees.

Ms. Krystal Straub is hired as a public relations manager. Ms. Straub has a degree in marketing & public relations and brings with her many years of experience in this field. Her main task is to be a liaison officer with unions, factories, companies and businesses to improve Union Ergonomics brand name recognition and help increase ergonomics and safety awareness in workers.

Ms. Jasmin Sonnylal is hired as an office manager. Ms. Sonnylal has a degree in business administration and information technology as well as a few years of experience in office administration. She will be in charge of general office administration and customer service.

Ms. Peggy Chiang has been hired as a marketing and advertising coordinator. Ms. Chiang has a university degree in journalism and was a news anchor in a TV station. She left her position to join Union Ergonomics as she is a strong believer of ergonomics. Her mission is to help more workers be aware of ergonomics and safety services provided by Union Ergonomics franchise clinics.

The year 2009 is almost finished and Union Ergonomics is finishing this year with a bang! We just sold three more franchises today to Dr. Pajouhandeh (a registered psychologist) & Mr Hashemi (a businessman), Mr. Alinejad (a real estate broker), and Mrs. Emami (a businessperson).

We have reached our three years sales projection in exactly 16 months after registering Union Ergonomics in August 25, 2008. This we could not have done without you. Outspoken union leader Mr. Sid Ryan has been chosen as the new president of Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL).

As head of the OFL, a body representing nearly 1 million public and private unionized workers, Mr. Ryan says he wants to work with the Liberal government on building a ‘green" economy and repairing the province’s manufacturing sector. Mr. Ryan thinks Premier Dalton McGuinty is right and that the new green energy act can create about 50,000 jobs. Mr. Ryan has been the Canadian Union of Public Employees of Ontario president since 1992.

Clinical Ergonomics: Joint Specific Exercises

This book is written mainly to improve physical fitness of the average worker. And as such will be distributed and given free of charge to all patients of Union ergonomics franchise clinics, starting January 2010.

The book does not use medical terms and is easy to read. It includes many exercises specific to each joint, with lots of illustrations to make patients understand the exercises.

The exercises are specific for each profession. These exercises may be used to improve an injured joint, make a weak joint stronger or to strengthen a healthy joint to make workers perform their tasks better and to prevent injuries.

Union Ergonomics main goal is to keep workers healthy. This book is another attempt to reach this goal.

Brian Cochrane will be remembered as a tough but honest union leader who knew the craft of collective negotiating and worked tirelessly for his members. Cochrane died early Sunday morning as a result of a heart attach. He was 56.

A former president of CUPE Local 416, he represented the city’s outside workers from amalgamation in 1998 to his retirement last year.

Union Ergonomics staff give their deepest condolences for the passing of this great union leader to his wife, and his sons, Christopher and Sean.

Union Ergonomics attended the annual labour day parade
Thousands marched through the downtown streets during Toronto’s annual Labour Day Parade on Monday, September 07, 2009. In a show of solidarity with Ontario union workers; Union Ergonomics franchise staff as well as clinic employees attended the labour day parade in downtown Toronto. As thousands of workers marched along Queen Street in the city's downtown, Toronto Mayor Mr. David Miller could be seen shaking hands, posing for photographs and chatting with workers. Mr. Miller told members of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) that the billion-dollar contract to built new street cars will "keep hundreds and hundreds of your brothers and sisters working for the next 20 years. I want to say thank to the CAW for standing up and fighting for what's right for working people across this province and across this country," Mr. Miller said.

Effective April 15, 2009 Union Ergonomics will not offer exclusive territory to any franchisees. Union Ergonomics will no longer offer any exclusive territory to any franchisees after April 15, 2009. Anyone who signed a franchise agreement already, will receive the 5 kilometres exclusive territory as promised. After April 15, 2009 there will be no exclusive territory under any circumstances. The Advertising and Marketing fund will also increase to 3% starting April 15, 2009. Union Ergonomics offering a free “Work ergonomics” seminar for office workers.
The goal of this free seminar by Union Ergonomics is to have the office workers apply the basic principles of ergonomics related to the prevention of Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSD’s) including back injuries and upper extremity Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs) and to gain an understanding of significant ergonomic issues affecting their industry. They will be given the knowledge and skills to implement programs in ergonomics, perform ergonomic job analyses, devise injury prevention strategies, develop solutions to abate ergonomic hazards and complete cost/benefit analyses. With these capabilities, the attendees will be able to justify ergonomic improvements and develop independent programs within their own work environments.

Starting September 2008, Union Ergonomics is a proud member of Canadian Franchise Association. Canadian Franchise Association, (CFA) after weeks of investigation, has accepted membership application of Union ergonomics. This is a proud and monumental moment for Union Ergonomics as many applications are rejected by CFA. To be accepted a franchisor among other things must adhere to the Codes of Ethics of CFA. Canada is the number one franchise country in the World with thousands of franchisors (twice more
franchises are in Canada than USA) and CFA represents over 400 of these franchise companies and the professionals who support this way of doing business. CFA board of directors represents all regions of the country, and promotes a strong code of ethics as well as the mandatory use of the CFA disclosure document guide. In signing on as a CFA franchisor member, a company agrees to give potential franchisees all the information they require to make a viable business decision.

Union Ergonomics staff joined more than 25000 union members in downtown Toronto to celebrate Labour Day. In a show of solidarity with Toronto union members; Union Ergonomics staff attended labour day parade in downtown Toronto, on September 01, 2008. As many as 25,000 men and women flooded the downtown core Monday, on foot and in floats, to celebrate the history of organized labour. It may sound like a dull subject, but the parade was anything but. Buoyed by the bright sunshine, trumpets and drums, a jubilant crowd marched from Nathan Phillip's Square all the way to the CNE. Children and
adults alike carried banners, shook noisemakers and blew whistles to say "thank you" for the good things unions have won for their members. CAW President Buzz Hargrove gave his last speech as union's leader just before the parade started. Hargrove will retire on September 6. Much of the talk along the route centred on the rumoured upcoming general election, a vote that looks more and more likely with each passing day. Union Ergonomics is proud to be a part of this historical event.
